Life of the Wolves

Life of the Wolves

You storm the forests and melt the snow all in one chase.
The caribou running through the trees with you and your pack trailing close behind.
The vultures swarm in circles around the frosty pines
waiting and watching for the caribou to fall.
Any that stands in the way shall move when the wolves come through.

In the moonless nights you sleep with one eye open
watching the snow for any movement.
When the moon shines through the hazy clouds,
you gallantly march to the peak of the mountains and let loose the howls.

Vicious you are, but only on occasion.
In the spring the birds sing and trees smile as you run across the plains laughing in the sun light.
Everyone splashes through the cool stream water,
enjoying the feeling for only a moment and then you’re off to the dark woods where you live.

In the summer you teach the pups to become as noble as they should.
They learn it all from you;
how to hunt with the pack and run in step as all wolves move.
In the quiet starry nights when no one feels like howling you stare into the darkness of space and the more beyond.

Do you see the constellation that represents a wolf?
Lupin oh regal one, a star is what you become.
When your bones are old and your eyes are weary,
you retreat to the starry heavens.

You shine down on the earth where you once ran in step and form
in a wild sort of way.
Younger wolves look up to where you are now,
knowing that in the end a star will earn their name,
and the wolves shall be in our skies for eternity.

Lots of lines I really like. The idea that stars earn names, not that we earn the right to be placed in the sky. I like that. I much liked this one as well.
Take care.
