Aura of Death

Aura of Death

The sting of a needle as it shoots through my skin,
the aura of death as my senses take it in.
I sit, chained to a chair that is cold as ice;
yet I feel warm sweat as it trickles through my eyes.

My sight becomes impaired and the pounding of my heart slows to an abnormal rate.
Fear rattles through my blood as my breath comes in late.
Is this the fear of the unknown or of what is know?
Perhaps it is the fear that I am dying for a crime I did not commit.

The evidence was against me and the trial was fair.
The public went home withhold a care;
and deep in my slowing heart,
the truth lies there.

Sentenced to death in the simplest way,
sedation my friend on the most beautiful day.
My fingers are numb and the feeling is creeping,
creeping up my shivering spine.

Is this how I was meant to leave this world?
NO NO NO, it’s not fair for only my grave to hold the truth!
Why do they not believe me, because of my morbid past?
So hastily they tossed my life through a broken window,
into the unknown...

The stale air in the room is getting colder,
or it just my imagination?
I can see the empty needle on the clean, white table.
A small drop of glistening liquid clings to the bright, silver metal.
My sight goes and my heart is a dying clock...
only so many minutes to go and then who knows what comes next...

I liked it. It did have a morbid touch to it, but it's a story well told. The morbidality, if you will, is something that comes with story, and it's not an add on, or whatever you call it. I think some lines where a bit choppy, but I liked it a lot. I do not envy you the nightmare.
Take care.
David

That was quite a nightmare. Not scary for me as I'm a nurse. Just different.
