Black History: Ode to Thy Great King.
The king as he stands before his court
Looks down among the masses
With a quiet strength,
His preparation begins
Millions of people standing together
To the edge of the horizon
Gaze up curiously
As wide-eyed children often do
Clearing his throat, the
King steps up to the mike
The impatient crowd hushes, and
The sweet anticipation
Strangles their thoughts
His eyes of maple glisten
With gracious intent
The tiny drops of sweat
Highlighted by the sun
Fall down his brow
With each word he speaks
The lion’s voice so smooth
Pours into the spectators ears
They soon realize that this man,
This king, has a dream
A dream many could never vision
While others silently bled for its salvation
A dream of black and white
That is painted together
Contrasting shades of each other’s beauty
Dreams of liberty’s voice
Singing in the ears of her children
Melodically teaching this glory
To the future
Dreams of colors
Spilling into one another
Melting by the flames
Of unity’s fires
A place where GOD
Becomes one man or women
And has the knowledge that lacks
The eyes of prejudice
As the people roar
With great appreciation
The street becomes a river
Flowing with tears of joy
And when the last beautiful note
Is sung by this king’s mind,
Of common sense
The people’s voices
Full of cheer blend so well
That the sound of static
Like an out of tune radio
Trumpets through the land
For the Glorious King
Had a dream
“Free at Last!”
“Free at Last!”
“Thank God Almighty,
We’re Free at last!”

I have lived through those terrible, but great years.
Martin Luther King was truly a great man and in his humaness came forth truth. "People are people"
All created in Gods image.
Your poem is a very nice tribute to Mr.King and well thought out and written.
Great job !
