in the shadows of my childhood hatred

death by negligence.
two setting suns over violated slaves.
the rain will drown them, but the screams will never fade.
i’ll always remember a dark house and two shadows armed with leather straps,
nail-tipped.
i was beaten until i bled, but i lived.
i lived.
i remember how snowfall brought purity, but i was never pure in his eyes.
to prove his point, he had taken my siblings out,
one by one,
and beat them to their death with that strap.
the fate of my brother, my sister,
will be the same decay that reaches my father.
how deep does blood run?
it runs from the tip of my gun...to the bullet hole between his eyes.
