I miss the shadow behind me,
the constant conscience that reminds me
when I'm right, when I'm wrong.
What I know when all along
I've played dumb to put on aires,
doing stupid things on stupid dares.
On Monday,
she gave me a bible.
I told her I'd read it,
it made her smile.
On Tuesday,
we talked in the hall.
About a girl whose number,
I should call.
On Wednesday,
we met in my drive way.
I had on a stained shirt,
illuminated by a bright day.
On Thursday,
she'll go to pray.
To Jehovah,
against moral decay.
On Friday,
she'll turn me down for sure.
Not that I'm bad,
just too bad for her.
On Saturday,
we'll get no sleep.
Counting the stars,
speaking so deep.
Sunday.
Sunday she'll go,
leave me here,
with memories of days
that I'll hold dear
forever and ever
I swear that I'll
never, never ever,
forget about our week,
our week together.
