things they say (stay in line)

Contributed by Cancer on Tuesday, 8th February 2005 @ 11:14:05 PM in AEST
Topic: DarkPoetry

they say that you can change the world
but you can't
it will take all you have
to merely change yourself
they say you can be whatever you want
and they mean it
until you just want to be yourself
and then they want you to change
if you wave your colors too high
you'll be burned and crucified
if you try to break free
they will eat you alive

because they say alot of things
but once you see through all their lies
you'll hear the only thing they ever mean

they say that love can conquer all
and then they'll stop at nothing
to take your love away from you
to jade you and feed your paranoia
they tell you to think outside the box
even as they nail you inside it
even as they force feed you lies
in the schools you must attend
they tell you that we're all equal
unless you're a foreigner, woman, or homeless
then you're just equal on paper
but you know how it works

because they say alot of things
but once you see through all their lies
you'll hear the only thing they ever mean

"your vote counts"
LIE
you'll follow who they tell you to
or you'll be considered a threat
and exterminated
"god is love"
LIE
god is an excuse for war
so you better pray to theirs'
"it's what's best for you"
LIE
it's what's best for them
you're just a minor obstacle
to be placated and heavily medicated
"tough it out, you can do it"
LIE
they want you to give up
it makes their job easier
and makes you much softer
for the teeth of the Machine

because they say alot of things
but once you learn how to read their lies
you'll hear the only thing they ever mean

"stay in line"

I REALLY LIKE THIS... it speaks enormous truth and is incredably catchy.

you have captured a lot of the hopelessness
and hypocrisy in this write Roy. I enjoyed it as
I do all your poems. I didn't agree with it all,
but I got the message behind it. Keep up the
writing man I hope you are keeping well.
