I close my eyes the world is red and green. I close my mouth I scream the world is spinning red and green. I swallow fear my mouth is red the world is green and dead and yellow brown leaves devour me; my bed is painted yellow blue the night sky the broken by her twilight knit and spittle down her fair, oceanic eyes the size of the night on broken razor rigid skin the stitch and cradle of.
Every night I consider her. The fealty of raw enkindled love; a tired laughter plays; my hands the mountainside (the butte, the craggy cliffs), her hands the winters early fall. I remember her, the wings of her voice lifting above me in my sleep in her morning kiss her coffee on my breath her emptiness.
Every night the songs of my life flutter and fall beneath my breath. Every night the black and barren light of my eyes consider these old bones. Every night against the tired glass the scab and cut above my knuckles punch. Every night I lower my voice to its song and its song is the silence its song is the strong unyielding tide rushing over curtain after curtain; the moonlight touches and takes the shadows of my bed.
And now, now I stand against the white backdrop the blue screen of my life playing over and over again. I stand aware, confident, and in fear. The darkness edges over the stars a slice of ribbon in her hair my fingers gnarled obsessed with ingenuity obsessed with what is not rather than what is. Focus. Focus; scream and dance it all away the bloody face the black eye the black eye the black in your face down your spine grit your teeth eye of the white and stippled skyline burning beneath the trees.
The rose is floundering beneath the sheets the spring rains dance. The grass and scarlet sky sweating the corduroy blue blood playing broken black in the brevity of a new thing.
Old bones breath the simplicity.
