It wasn’t the rose
But how you looked
As you stood there holding it
With stars in your eyes
But even stars
Tell lies
And it wasn’t
That I wanted truth
Rather, I needed to believe
In the impossible
For your truth
Wasn’t mine
It wasn’t forever
That I expected then
But one phenomenal moment
In the absence of time
But that moment
Had to die
Only now do I realize
How fully I gave
Myself to that moment
And only now can I admit
That it was already a lie, before
The petals of the rose had dried
But for the stars...
I had to try

WOW! This is absolutely gorgeous. It gave my goosebumps. Your use of words was perfect. Each one was so precise and of so much importance. Amazing work! I really love this poem of yours. |

Hi SNM,
A strong write. Romantic idealism (read masochism when it isn't reciprocated or validated) is a persistent and evergreen theme in poetry.Your vehicle for it is a bittersweet acknowledgement of the folly of it all, but I share your sentiments - its worth the try. The alternative is far too barren.
Spike
P.S. 'But one phenomenal moment
In the absence of time' (Sigh)

Oh Snemmy...this is gorgeous.
It wasn’t the rose
But how you looked
As you stood there holding it
With stars in your eyes
But even stars
Tell lies
Those first six lines just drew me in straight away, and this is so so true...
Stunning write sweetie,
I understand...
*hugs tight*

Bravo! I really enjoyed the format of this piece, as well as the graceful wording and beautiful imagery. Well done, indeed. There is a lingering sadness quite palpable about this.

Sometimes my dear, the stars just aren't ready for you, even though you think you are ready for them.
Reach again ... they're waiting ~

Wow, I can really really relate to this poem. Interesting how powerfully truth can be expressed within poetic verse and you have done so perfectly in this poem.
But even stars
Tell lies
OMG, yes, they do!
