Navel Gazing can be so much Fun

Contributed by redlantern2051 on Friday, 4th February 2005 @ 11:30:14 PM in AEST
Topic: oops

Navel-Gazing can be so much Fun

That guy you used to laugh at,
Like when he said on the school bus

Navel-Gazing can be so much fun
Navel-Gazing can be so much fun

That was me,
I didn’t think you all heard

I was talking a pretty talk
To a beautiful girl

I was gazing deep into her eyes,
I was thinking maybe it could just be me and her on the lonely highway

I didn’t know you put her up to it,
Life is so unfair when you are 15 and you’re always a Junior

The guy who helped Dan shoplift Chilli Peppers Cds
That was me

I stll think of that when I listen to them,
It makes me feel warm

‘Cause we’ve all grown up and gotten so old

But once we were dancing around like outlaws
We were dancing around like outlaws

Navel-Gazing can be so much fun
Navel-Gazing can be so much fun

You live your life
You try to act tough

You try to make out feelings don’t cost too much,
But yeah, they cost too much

They cost too much,
Inside and outside
They cost too much,

& I have burnt so many friends,
I have seen so many bridges crumble into the Sea

These days the sand still shifts beneath us
& I always have treasured whatever the ground swallows

Navel-Gazing can be so much fun
Navel-Gazing can be so much fun

When we used to play Dungeons and Dragons,
I had more fun than in my whole life

And it was before drugs, and it was before cars,
It was kinda even before we all bought CDs

I think we only had a couple,
Beatles and Queen
We always had to decide

The guy who used to tape Hunter on late nights
That was me

The guy who used to try so hard in English
That was me

The guy who walked today into the soft falling rain
Wondering who or what filled his heart now

That was me
That was me

I want to make jokes about the bad Batman movie sequels,
I want to to watch the tennis on TV

Jesus, sometimes I get lonely
Sometimes I get so lonely

Sometimes I wake up and I remember the Real One’s
Gone forever, gone across the Endless Sea…

And all I have left is lust and whatever that has brought me,
& I guess sometimes that’s just about OK

But I long for the days when I held someone I really loved,
I wish I could write books about the people I have loved

On the school bus,
With the beautiful girl

The joke was on me and I couldn’t laugh along with the crowd
But I still say

Navel Gazing can be so much fun
Navel Gazing can be so much fun

That was me,
That was me.

Your title intrigued me. And your poem makes me smile. Oh the memories. The background guy that everyone know and needs, but isn't the top of the mentions list. Don't we all feel like that at some point. 'I could have done more with my life' kind of thing. Yeah. Good read. Awsome topic. I think it could be classified as lymrics, at least the way I was reading it. *shrug* Anyway, I really enjoyed this one. *thumbs up*

This was really good. It made me think of all the things I remember and miss. I love walking down memory lane...sometimes! Good read though, I enjoyed it.
