Ruby Slippers

Contributed by FleurdeSang on Thursday, 3rd February 2005 @ 03:47:46 PM in AEST
Topic: DreamsandWishes

A vacation from the dreary norm that has become my life,
The end of my endless unmet duties...
That’s all I ask...

The dishes are piling in the sink,
The floor is yet to be swept...
Laundry is the size of Mt. Everest,
And my room... well, let's not go there...

Ah, if only I had a pair of ruby slippers,
I could click my heels three times,
Say your name,
And I’ll be warm in your arms...

All my worries left in rainy Florida,
All my obstacles abandoned,
Just 3 clicks,
And I’m where you are...

Oh, such bliss that would be,
Snuggling close, just you and me...
Here and now,
In my hideous cleaning clothes,
I daydream of a life that could be...

I’d trade these worthless rags for a glamorous black gown,
Fix my hair and face just for you...
A moonlit waltz,
A warm blanket for two...
Sipping red wine beneath fallen embers,
Sharing a kiss under ancient willow trees...

My thoughts are interrupted by a high SCREECH,
The laundry yells for my attention...
As a faithful servant to the Queen,
I must do what is asked of me...

If only I had a pair of ruby slippers...
Damn that wicked witch of the east!!.... Or was it west?

Casual is good ... and deffinately works. You are able to express yourself well, in any manner you choose it would seem. You have certainly pulled me into your reverie ... Thank you ... I needed that today.

I'm usually not the type of person to go "Aww" and make those kind of sounds when ever I see something cute and pretty, like a little girl or something, but I thought this poem was really *cute* :), and It made me do that. (Which is saying a lot coming from me). lol

I liked this poem for a couple of reasons. One, is that it is different than your other work, which is impressive because, I think it is easy for writers to get stuck in "their style" and not really go beyond that. When we get stuck like that, our writing becomes stagnant and not as creative, but I think it takes an especially talented writer to venture outside of our "comfort zone" and write about different things because it forces us to be more creative. So I think this poem, when shown with all of your other work, shows how talented of a writer you are, and how you can write about anything.

Second of all, I liked that it was so light-hearted, especially in contrast with your other work. I think it's fun to be light hearted sometimes and not be so serious, because......guess what......(drum roll)........LIFE IS NOT SO SERIOUS!!! (Yay! *applause*) lol
I need to remind myself that sometimes, but seriously, I think when we die, we will realize that life isn't as serious as we thought and that everything is all good. And even before we die, we have moments in our life where we feel light hearted, and know that we shouldn't stress out as much. But that doesn't mean that we don't want things to be different than they are sometimes, and that sometimes life isn't fun.....but inspite of all of that, we still shouldn't take life too seriously. And I think you expressed that in this poem. Because in your poem you weren't talking how everything was perfect, and nice, and you talked about how you wanted to get away, etc., but at the same time it was all in light hearted fun. That is a wise attitude to keep becaue that helps us deal with our daily sh*t.

Be True,
zenmind

I love your poem. It reminds me of one that I wrote recently, called I Want Out. Of course I later figured that PMS was the biggest inspiration behind that poem! Anyway, your poem is great!
