I dream shrines to my children

Contributed by Katiebird on Wednesday, 2nd February 2005 @ 03:38:20 PM in AEST
Topic: oops

my daughter is round
terra cotta
her belly an empty hole
body covered with children
their mouths open wide
in need and anger
I lay pale pastel flowers at her feet
a profusion of bright colors will
frighten her
confuse her
I don’t want to confuse my daughter
I must be careful

my son is bone china
delicate
easily chipped
easily broken
I dress him in red and yellow silk
rings at his ear and eyebrow
gypsy clothes
wrap him in a fog envelope
I keep him moving
he knows they are right behind him
I protect him with my life
I must be careful

they are the fruit of my body
this woman
this man
they are the reason I am here

I dream shrines to my children
