A Holiday Poem

Contributed by Elisabeth on Sunday, 8th December 2002 @ 02:30:00 PM in AEST
Topic: Holiday Poetry

When Christmas, Santa, or reindeer come to mind
Most think of parties and presents, or pageants so fine
And some think of shopping and holiday lights
While others anticipate the egg nog and feasts out of sight

But before there was St. Nick and holiday cheer
There was Jesus Christ so brave-- He never
feared
He battled the sinners and saints with love in
His heart
He was humble and lowly, willing from the start

From the start of time, where we first began
God had a plan, an awesome way to redeem man
Clothed in flesh, He went to earth to set His chosen free
Jesus healed the sick, raised the dead, and made a blind man see

He taught in parables so some would hear, and
some not at all
His words have pierced our hearts, touched
even the Jew named Saul
After years of miracles and astonishing the
Pharisees
His life came to an end on a cross at Calvary

Jesus Christ was God manifest in the flesh
He gave of Himself, and today has challenged us to the test
We must be kind and courteous, and love one another
Love God with all our strength, and be honest before our brothers

Without Him dwelling within us we cannot fight
the good fight
Life is more than material gain--it is Satan using
all his might
But seek the God of the Jews and His
righteousness
For He brings truth and light, He gives you love
His best

We must obey His word, His flesh, all that is written
We must turn from sin and be born again to have our names written
In the book of life, yes, He is so full of grace
To us sinners who grab a hold of the John 3:16 case

And even still we must keep on living
Worshipping in spirit and truth, and even in our
giving
Giving is the reason for faith, hope, and even
this season
Let us give thanks to God, let us strive to please
Him

God gave of Himself to a world that still rejects Him today
They love their philosophies and gods, they have their own way
The day is coming when He will come for His bride
So church of the covenant be ready to ride

On white horses through streets of gold, in a
glorious heaven we'll be
I am so grateful to the giver of life-- He died
for you and me
I charge every one of you to keep your minds
on Him
Pray for every deed, thought, and word-- don't
follow any whim

Jesus is the reason for St. Nick and holiday cheer
For pageants and parties, and even reindeer.

How true. It's so easy to forget the true meaning of CHRISTmas. Great poem. I loved it.
