A Poem For Emily

Contributed by TheForgottenMelody on Sunday, 30th January 2005 @ 09:26:22 PM in AEST
Topic: FriendshipPoetry

You talked to me
Inside your house
While the sound of an angry motor
Screamed outside

I sat to read
Your lines of words
Complaints of the hiding, sleeping solar
Orb in grey

You sent pictures
Of your face and the snow
The white of the skin, the dust on the grass
Matched perfectly

But then you left
Without saying a word
Not a good-bye or even a last
"Be right back"

Where was Emily?
Caught up in the strings
Of a guitar or the warmth of your bed
Catching sleep?

Where is she now?
Serving ice cream cones
To frozen fools whose cheeks are red?
I'll know soon

I really very much enjoyed reading this, it has such great imagery scattered carefully through it. This would be great if it was put to music, with the right sound it would be a memorable song. Reminded me a little of Richard Butler's lyrics. Well done.
