Warm Morning Light

Contributed by Steeleyes on Saturday, 7th December 2002 @ 03:30:00 AM in AEST
Topic: oops

we were young and knew nothing much
but we were ready to learn and we did
through morning fields with the sun on our backs
waist high in the yellow feathers, the horizon bright

wandering the forest in the soft green places
the sky blinking blue above us
we roamed the brown paths, fields, moor and fen
hoping under red sunsets for a wonderful tomorrow
dreaming of forever in nights moonfilled and starbright
adventures calling from every branch and stone,
every stream, hillside and meadow

and every living room took us in
eyes all questions and hopes sky high
it was a time of love without end and freedom too
with nothing to disturb the endless search
for the adventure of being, the feelings of fun
and the dreams we knew could be real

we did not see the adult world with eyes so true
we wove a fantasy of dreams and wishes
with no reality under our airy creations
and so we fell to being older
and it was then we saw the world clearer
and at last could see we'd stepped through
a hidden door and could go back no more

the dreams were forgotten
or felt as heavy weights
behind the heart

the world seemed to laugh at us
and our wishes of freedom
and what we'd learned from starlight

but now on nights when the stars are clear
and the moon lies still on shimmering water
we feel the dreams
still waiting
still calling
just beyond our fingertips
and we smile across the years
remembering those days
of childhood
and that warm morning light
