Fire for Eyes

Suicide

I once met a girl who had fire for eyes
She was too mad to live but too young to die
In walking she sang with short swift strides
And lit up the streets with her kindled eyes
Slight subtle and sad, she wept embers for tears
With soot on her face she’d been crying for years
Only pathos were felt from those who were near
But flinched at the sight of something so queer
What a burden she felt of her infernal gift
To the roof of St. Vincent’s alienated and adrift
Mad to live but eternally bereft
A blanket of ash was all that was left
