Why would you hate me
Because I'm black?
Are you not aware that
It's knowledge you lack?
Take a look at a sheet of music
Both black and white are there
Sounding beautiful when they're together
Of their color they're not aware
And those of us who read this music
Think nothing of the colors used
We're just worried about what it sounds like
And hoping our ears won't be abused
And those of us who hear this music
Could care less of how it's made
Most aren't even listening
Just wishing it would fade
So why can't we do this
In everday life?
Do we care more of a person's appearance
Than another one's strife?
Let's take a lesson from this sheet of music
For it speaks the truth in a way
Don't judge a person by their color
But by what they have to say

Oh my goodness...I'm in awe of the ongoing metaphor of sheet music and skin color...I would pay to read this poem again...I'm just simply amazed! Many people (including me, I must say) feel the same way about racial issues today...it's not right! Thanks for the poem, it made my day! |
