I rode your diamond sharp aggravation
all the way through my misery
your pursed lips did nothing
to dissuade my independency
I know you don't understand
why
when I'm crying
I need to be alone
and I know I scare you
when my tears drop off
and my eyes glaze over
and I get that far off look in my eye
you can't call me back
when I'm that far gone
try to grasp my pale chin
in your hand to force me back
and I know
but I have nothing to offer you
by way of apology
there are no explinations
just
when you have a daughter
treat her like a goddess
because these tears don't come from nowhere
and each tiny drop
carries the name and the face
of the only man to ever see the human in me
the only person to ever cut so deep
that it never stopped bleeding
