Sliding into Another Place

Contributed by merry on Monday, 24th January 2005 @ 06:55:15 PM in AEST
Topic: ambiguous

Sliding into Heathrow
She woke with a start
A world away from familiar
Would she feel the difference?
Nervous energy shot from her fingertips
She wanted a cigarette for the first time in years
Shook off the urge and picked up her things

Airports reminded her of Mars
Traveling the time space continuum
She listened to her footsteps echo as she walked
Seemingly endless corridors
Pods of oblivious humanity
Were they all as lost as she was?
Hard to tell the actors from the real people here

Night in the city was supposed to be pretty
Noisy avenues failed to impress her
As she wished she was home in her bed
Watching reruns on television
Were her expectations too high or too low
She was easy to satisfy most of the time
Tonight she expected more somehow

The pillows smelled funny and the water dripped
It was less than appealing to sit alone
Wondering what the dog was doing
Missing the feel of her blankets
She looked out the window
Ominous fog engulfed streetlamps
Perhaps it’s a dream, she exhaled

It was like I was walking with you...I don't know how you make it all seem so real Gaille.
Every time I read you I get lost in the words...

I have had all those feelings being in a strange place. They can fill you with wonder and fascination and at the same time make you long for the familiar. A feeling of being lost and yet being on adventure. You capture those challenges so well.
