The Five Foot Leap
Katherine Faigen
30 inches of pure powder
I will jump the bank of plowed snow
Back up to give myself some room
Paw the ground; just for show
With reckless abandon I run forth
My arms swinging
battle cry ringing
I leap and tuck my feet
I see
The snow, so white beneath me
A cloud of coldness, freshness, sweet
And then I hit
The snow erupts
I'm in a pit
All covered up
I cannot breath my face is numb
My dad cries out, "Now that was dumb!"

Geez, you know - this makes me realize what is lost sometimes in the process of "growing up". Yes indeed - you certainly captured it. Well done!
A grown up that needs to leap more often,
