Fingerprints

Contributed by NeonHusky on Sunday, 23rd January 2005 @ 01:30:39 PM in AEST
Topic: FriendshipPoetry

Friendship leaves tattoos
Imprinted on my soul,
And rings in my ears forever
Like the bell of eternity’s toll.

Fingerprints on a child’s paintings
That can never be erased,
But they can be covered and forgotten
And sometimes even replaced.

But I could never kill a seedling,
That could one day grow into a powerful tree
But somehow roots are not deep enough
That my friends forget about me.

It seems the shelter of its branches
Will not suffice their many needs
In fact they think it never was a timber
But a garden of irritating weeds?

They say the memories were never tattoos
But scars that will soon fade
And fingerprints from younger years
Were merely child’s play

“But what about the bell?
Can you not hear it ringing?”
“No, I can only hear
another new friendship singing.”

I know what it feels like to lose friends because they forget you. I know how much it hurts.

the only thing I can find to critique on about this write id the third to last stanza where the question mark is, I think it would be better if you left that out, it serves no purpose.

Awesome write otherwise...

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
