the throw
the mexican rug
over the back of that chair
I sit and relax pretending I wasn't here
lighting my cigarette, I stare
off into the distance
inside
the cold leather reminds me of bitter times
turn up the thermostat
inside
I dream of a different life
while the living heart rate runs flat
the throw
that embodied self
over this acute sense of reality
I lie and pretend it has nothing to do with me
extinguishing my own form
and I don't care, no, I don't care at all
and the look I get in return...
