My Brother

Contributed by Unbreakable on Saturday, 22nd January 2005 @ 06:44:47 PM in AEST
Topic: FamilyPoems

You were there from the moment I was born, I was your new friend
We were so close those first few years, why did it have to come to an end?

You watched me take my first step, I watched you walk away
You held my hand and told me not to cry, I can't dry your tears today

You helped me go through changes, I helped you all I could
Everything seemed so different, if I could help you now I would

You let me look up to you big brother, I let you push me around
You were supposed to be my best friend, I watched you let me down

You seemed always so sincere to me, I was so niave
I let you take and take from me, and stupidly I still believe

You were here and you were gone again, I was left confused
You just didn't seem to care that you had left me bruised

You don't think about anyone but yourself, I don't know if I even care
Sometimes I hate you, pity you or cry, sometimes I forget that you're even there

You used to tell me you loved me, I used to say it too
And even though you don't say it anymore, I want you to know I still do

You can make me so angry for so long, I just have to hear your voice
To remember how we used to be, and how you live now is your own choice

I'll try not to let your decisions affect me, but I hope one day you realise
Just how your decisions affect other people, how you've broken all your ties

This was so sad but well written. I hope things get better for you!

Uniquely written piece of writing, and you said some really deep stuff here. I can sort of relate with the brother relationship that I've got, so this was an easy read for me to grasp. I don't think I've ever seen a poem written quite like this, you've got a knack for originality in your writes. My favorite couplet most definitely had to be seventh, as I know for a fact that it speaks on so many different levels to me. It's a shame what life can dish out at times, but in the end I think this poem helps point out an excellent state of mind on this issue. Wonderful.
