Cobblers Field*

Contributed by Glo on Saturday, 22nd January 2005 @ 06:35:27 AM in AEST
Topic: Nostalgic

During the Summer months,
We ladies gather round,
Off we head to Cobblers Field...
For there's sweet things to be found.

We've been doing this for years,
It's a tradition for us.
Gathering the most succulent berries,
Picking as many as we can...
Taking them back home,
Soaking them in large pans.

There's shrubs, vines and trees,
All kinds of natural fruit.
As far as the eyes can see.
So grab a basket and come along with me.

Lot's of Peach, Apple, Pear and Cherry trees,
Mulberries plump and sweet.
Makes a wonderful cup of tea.
A special mix, given to me by my Grandmother,
A guarded family recipe.

There's Strawberries, Blackberries and Blueberries,
Just ripened, in time to make some Jam.
Always adding the right amount of lemon juice and,
Sugar... for my husband Sam.

The one thing all the Husbands love,
For the Wives to do...
Is to combine all the fruit and make,
A huge dish we lovingly call Cobblers Stew.

Mixing all the fruit together,
Baking it in a thick, buttery crust...
Filling it with all the tasty fruit and ingredients,
A hearty appetite is a must.

We've tended to our Field of Ambrosia,
As been done generations ago,
An abundance of all natural fruit it always yields,
Your more than welcome to join us,
Here at Cobblers Field.

The Harvest is plentiful!

Left my mouth watering and my memory soaring. I also had a place like this- oh so long ago. Thanks for making me hungry and making me smile.

Oh Yummy, this sounds so great! I'd love to come! Brought back some great memories from childhood, living on a small farm. Lots of yummy goodies. Take care and much peace.
