Deep in the woods lives a friend of mine,
I've known him for many years...
Ever since I've known him,
He's cried many, many tears.
I asked him, why are you so sad?
He looked up at me and said...
I cry for my Ancestors,
Who's been gone for hundreds of years .
I cry for what few family remain...
And for those that are yet to be,
For they've felt the heartache that flows through me.
The new comers will be cursed to feel my pain,
Cursed to live a life alone...
Never having a place to call home.
Lifting my head howling up at the Moon,
Because he understands...you see.
The Moon and I are brothers,
He really understands...
How it is to be all alone in this land.
So when my Spirit starts to falter...
Feeling really down,
Always at the setting of the Sun,
My brother the Moon and I...
In Spirit we become one.
He tells me how lonesome it is in Space,
I tell him the same, of living on land.
Having a special connection, we both understand.
No matter what Phase the Moon is in...
He's always there for me,
But on Full Moon nights we talk all night...
Well into the mornings light.
Still, I cry for my Ancestors, who's long since gone,
I cry for what few family remain...
And for those that are yet to be,
Knowing they will endure my lonely pain.
Lifting my head howling up at the Moon.
Because I understand him, glad to be his friend.
As he surely understands me.
One good friend makes a world of difference!
