Petal in the Wind

Topic: LovePoetry

I can finally say I've done it now,
I can finally say I've got you out of my head,
Now that another,
Much more beautiful,
Person has come along,
I can't remember you;

I kept a rose you told me to hold,
In loving memory of you,
And me,
And what we might have been meant to be,
But now,
All that's left of you,
Is one,
Single petal;

I sat there thinking of her,
Not your replacement,
But your eraser,
The better than you,
And I picked you up,
Gently I plucked your petals,
Away you went,
One by one by one by one,
Until there were none;

I kept a rose you told me to hold,
In loving memory of you,
And me,
And what we might have been meant to be,
But now,
All that's left of you,
Is one,
Single petal;

There on my bed,
Your face stared me in the eyes,
The petal told me not to completely drop you,
And so I threw the stem away,
I held that last petal of you,
In my aching palm,
Not sure what to do;

I kept a rose you me to hold,
In loving memory of you,
And me,
And what we might have been meant to be,
But now,
All that's left of you,
Is one,
Single petal;

Then she came to my house,
Alone and unsure,
And as I met her at her car,
A gently breeze came to us,
And her hazel eyes glistened,
Then as my hand slowly opened,
I knew I didn't need you,
And your petal was blown away,
In that gently breeze,
And I watched you slowly walk away,

I kept a rose you told me to hold,
In loving memory of you,
And me,
And what we might have been meant to be,
But now,
All that's left of you,
Is one,
Single petal,
Drifting in the wind.

I don't know how many it got, but you're right, it deserved more. It's well written, well spoken and clear as day, in technicolor.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
