Hope, you taunt my tattered will
And plague my restless dreams
Shadow the face of love unreal
And charily slit my seams

Hope, you mock with every breath
And bind an absent touch
Burn me with what flame is left
And steal the one I clutch

Hope be gone and speak no more
Let me fall to sleep
Free me of your drowning scorn
And throw me to the deep
