They say that there’s a paradise,
But I found it’s the long road home
My feet are bare and ragged
For now, I proceed to roam
The trail I follow has been a hard one
Littered with countless mistakes
Thousands of miles away but standing beside me
A bruised but graceful heart breaks
Slipping through my fingers
Sliding through my grasp
The journey is no longer mine to control
With anguished realization, I gasp
Moving away, moving on
Running out of time
Keenly I am aware
That I’ve quickly outlived my prime
Home is my final destination
Through the mist I feel it’s golden glow
Drifting, drawing, beckoning me
Waiting for my turn to go...

A beautifully themed and written poem. I especially liked the last stanza, which wrapped it up very well. Blessings to you, and to your loved one, wherever he or she now is.
