Lifepoems

A tarnished placard
on an oaken box,
worn smooth by the oils and hands
of the ages,
decrees that the box keeps secret
that which lets you love the world.
Though many have tried,
as evidenced by the rounded claw-marks,
the box will choose to open
for only a select few,
whose blood already carries
the love to be found.
Elite sleepers,
like dictators and saints,
they are drawn to the box for awakening
and transform into poets,
who give out the world,
piece by piece,
and let you love it.
