An expectation

An expectation,
lingers in the back of my skull,
transfering secrets,
whispered silent.
I am not sure what it means.
An expectation,
to write the next Motzart piece,
to rise
above the last poem.
I want this expectation to shatter.
I will write this poem and it will be what is
already written,
a light figure standing straight,
up against the door frame,
blocking mountain views.
If you turn
the peak will sneak around
the glass structure,
a house for plants,
a heat wave of delightful slates,
a plate of silk gatherings,
twigs from the lightning struck tree,
trunk,
still charred from last nights
carefully placed atom
bomb
A cherished evening in a valley,
flowing south,
into the bay,
the expanded ocean,
the view of infinity,
of untouchable words,
inside a fire

When I wrote this poem, I had to deal with my "expectation" of what I wanted it to be. I wanted to write a great poem. I hate expectatons because they put pressure on what you are trying to do, which you might be able to do better without that pressure. The best poems I have ever written were poems where I had no expectations, and something just came out. My philosophy is to "just write" without expectations. That is the best creative outlet for me because it allows us to write anything and everything. |
