The roof was sagging saddle back
Windows broken old ragged curtians hang
Out on the porch a chain hanging swing
An old farm house with no more tomorrows
Two rusty closeline poles on the east side
A lilac bush golriously full bloom
It must have been seen from the farm wifes kitchen
I think of an old farm lady and give up a sigh
An unpruned orchard fruits growing in the sun
There's a rope hanging from a limb
A car tire lies upon the ground
West of the old house caving on down
Painted red, but weathered grey
Still farm implemts rusted in that barn
I have to wonder what were they like
How many children large family or small
I view from my car over a ditch eldaberries and cattail spikes
A touch of sadness upon my mind
Where are the children now
That long ago family were they happy gentle and kind
I remember my own Grandma ,but Papa I never knew
Daddy used to talk how they had it so hard
I Think of this family and my mind's askew
I wonder are you like me
Do you ever wonder of the past
If you do I'd like to know what you see

I didn't understand..is this talking about the barn?
I'm not at my best right now? and I'm just thinking it's the barn..I like this very much.. it's very discriptive and well..I like it very much. |

You painted a really great picture in my imagination, with the exception of a few lines where I was a little unsure of what you were talking about. The part about the barn (if that is what it was) puzzled me, as well. But my overall impression is a good one. I think this is a great poem. |

I do this ALL the time! I love old farmhouses and ghost towns for just this reason---old cemeteries, too. Fascinating.

We joke and call them "fixer-uppers' and sometimes laugh a bit about how small they are. These skeletons of the past, homes that did't last the test of time, only to be left to the elements that slowly take them back to the earth.
The families that once called it home, had their own sense of proud ownership of the four walls that once stood, they too, probably now gone like the rest of the memories.
thanks for sharing! |
