You Keep Living for Me

You Keep Living for Me
January 16, 2005

When I look into your eyes,
I can see you pleading with your life...
I wonder if you know, and why
You have to feel the pain, alone
Gone so far in your heart, devastated
So close in my mine, love created

On the white bed, white walls, white gowns passing through
Your face falls sullen, was it all today?
Every morning I come to see you
Is a blur, one long day, and by the end
You've gone from glowing to going
And I worry that you know
But I won't let go.

I'll sit forever in this chair, in this room
Holding your hand and reading aloud
I'll do everything I can to keep you here
You try so hard, I am so proud...
Until I look into your eyes and see the suffering you do
I know that you're not hanging on just for you...

Am I selfish to want to keep you with me,
Is it fair to keep you struggling?
Your voice is growing faint in my memory,
It's been so long since you spoke to me.
If you could part your lips and speak,
What would you have me do?
Oh, in your eyes I see and know
You would not have to...
