Conversation with Higher Powers

Contributed by Wilder on Thursday, 5th December 2002 @ 02:30:00 PM in AEST
Topic: HumorPoetry

I was a rich man, snobby and stout
I didn't care what money was about
I loved to spend, I loved to brag
People told me I was a spoiled old bag

I didn't care, I loved my wealth
I didn't approach it with much stealth
I did not care for love and trust
Then one day I was hit by a bus

As I was hanging in certain peril
I was paid a visit by the Devil
Thought I must say it was quite strange
It seems that Lucifer had a change

There were no horns, there was no tail
No fiery fork, no deathly wail
No minions crawling, no goat-shaped hooves
He wore one sneaker and wore one shoe

His skin was not all scaly and red
He wore a beanie hat on his head
He didn't speak with a bellowing voice
He spoke quite sofly, and oddly by choice

I asked the devil "Am I going to die?"
He said "Yes, I wouldn't want to lie"
I asked "I thought the devil *always* told lies?"
He said "I'm God, I'm in disguise"

When I was sure that i was dead
My ghost stood up and went bright red
Why the disguise? I felt inclined to enquire
Doesn't it alone suggest you're a liar?

God sat down and my ghost did too
He said "There's something I have to do"
I said "what" and he he started to laugh;
"I wanted to be the one that kicked your ar**"
