  Social

for some

Contributed by darkeyedman on Thursday, 5th December 2002 @ 12:00:00 PM in AEST
Topic: political

White only restaurants, white only bathrooms.
White only waterfountains.
Hatred which etched away at the human being
In every man, woman, child
Who saw the signs.
A chipping away at common sensibilitys
And judgement until the dull itch of separate but equal
Became the roaring flames of city streets
With billyclubs crashing downward.
And a nation, man woman and child,
Standing tall to take the blow.
The old man at the union meeting
Recites the pledge of allegiance,
And at the end, as he always does,
Say’s justice for some in a quite loud voice.
Not justice for all. Justice for some.
He is not shaking his fist in anger,
He would never burn the flag.
He just wants the world to know
That the hurt never goes away.
Laws ended segregation,
And people live together and learn.
And maybe, if he says ‘for some’
One more time, he’ll believe things have changed.
He says it for himself, and for us.
Equal, then let me speak.
One nation, then share my anger.
For all, then give me mine.
Leave my tombstone blank,
I said my piece while I lived.
