If only he could levitate
We’d never notice this mistake
and the sight of his feet
swaying back and forth
He tied that tie too tightly
around his neck
and hung himself with it
This cubicle became his tomb
Co-workers gather teary eyed, sad,
but at the same time
fascinated by death
They wonder what has become of him
besides the lack of breath
"there's nothing to see here"
cries the manager,
"back to your desks, we'll take care of this...
time is money"
and off they scurry
like lab rats back into the maze
forever searching for that piece of cheese
and I despise them...
not for who they are,
but for what they've become
desensitized... every last one
The zombies that exist outside of the movies
they look like you and me
The mannequin with the skin
that can bleed so profusely
they will cease to be
Like the flock of sheep that hurdles fences
outside of your dreams
They’re human beings...
with ties like nooses they make use of
to hide from the corporate brandings
from the cattle prod with a brand name
And it's understanding...
one day I’ll plant my body
in hopes that I’ll grow out from the earth
for every time someone dies
countless women give birth.

such a tragedy when such a great poem is overlooked and not getting the comments it deserves. not a worse tragedy than the topic of this i would say. your talent shines through your words, and only the blind cannot be honored by it. |
