I saw you today
Standing in the square.
I walked right past you
You didn't see me there
You didn't even notice
As I passed you by
I'm nothing but a shadow
In the corner of your eye
I used to be all there was
All you ever saw
Now i'm like the rest of them,
Not worth looking for.
I dream one day you'll notice me
And as I pass you by
You'll turn and say 'How are you today?'
And i'll turn and say 'fine'.
And we'll keep on noticing each other
Until our eyesight ends.
When in darkness we'll remain
The very best of friends.

This is full of the emotional turmoil left when all that remains is friendship. And in the end, is it even really that at all or just courtesy ... nice write.
