A New Day

A New Day
By Jim Hellekson

Thing will never be the same, between you and me. Maybe this is God’s will, or
Fate, or maybe our lives together were just not meant to be.
You will never know how much it hurts me to push you away, how much I wish to look into those eyes so deep, now just a memory of a long-passed day.
The agony grows harder and deeper every day and despite my fear of losing you, of loving you, I shut my doors, barricade my windows all to keep you away.
I’m sorry for doing this to you; I know this isn’t what you want it to be. But two men’s hearts are one more than your eyes are allowed to see.
If only you knew how many tears have been shed on account of this; how many hours have been spent thinking of you, and ways to remove my name from this terrible list.
Don’t cry my love, my heart will always be there. A protector of you in dark places, when the weight of life becomes too much to bear.
And when you look to the heavens tonight my dear, I pray you think of me, for those are my tears sparkling in the sky, one for every dream we will never see.
I’ll be there in the morning, and ill bring with me a warm caress; my gift of love to you, a forbidden love whose will never be allowed to rest.
These are all promises to you I do intend to keep. Reminders of my love once so bright; now lost to the deep.
Be strong my love, my time to leave draws ever more near. Cherish the new love you have found, and forget about me, don’t let my memory darken your waters ever so clear.
My only wish is that you remember me, please do not forget my name, for with you I will always be, and in my heart you will always remain.
