Across a tiny sea of winter-browned grass
leaves dance and cavort in a frosty scamper
the morning sun gleams without warmth
and bird chatter echoes through empty air
Wisps of clouds race against each other
on a playground of fragile pale blue
hands search deeper in pockets for unfound comfort
and normally shy breath's revealed by a steamy rainment
The constitutional's vitality loses importance
as toes make an aching complaint of their chill
yet the clear crispness seems to enhance sight
to view the frozen blight as necessity
There's a promise hidden amidst the dearth
in spite of the days cold forlorn
all may be appear withdrawn in icy disdain
but a colored rebirth is waiting its turn

You know, on days that are dead-cold, your sight actually does get better... the moisture in the air freezes and falls, so the fog of distance is decreased. Buyah. |

I really liked this. I tripped over a few things in the last stanza, but with those cleaned up, this is really lovely. Like warm socks on a frosty evening.
