Pieces of my Prison

i have kicked and reached from the depths
as that which was not meant to swim.
i have been tangled in complacency
and swallowed by the darkness.
i have fought the tides within and without
which hunger to drag me back inside my prison,
i have looked up to see
a passage to my freedom,
alas discovering my Way, Truth, and Life,
with a frantic gasp of air,
emerging and shattering the liquid surface
into a million crystal shards.
they catch the sun in a brilliant cascade
but once, in this moment of breaking.
as they shower down around me,
these pieces of my prison,
i weep at the beauty of their torment, now broken.
