Drops on the Sill
When rain hides the sun from eyes in the woods
I sit in my study and gaze to the clouds
Has time merely stopped for to ponder my world
Or is this a renewal to cleanse my regret
As the grass bends its stalk to surrender for now
The flowers be strong and move not at all
Whispering winds blow leaves through the sky
And where they light is the will of the breeze
A rustle on the roof warns of the storm
Its amplified might oh what shall it bring
This for now be the quills of the rain
Inside it wells and builds on itself
As quills turn to daggers unsheathed to the soul
Willows and cattails unbending and firm
Release sober seeds to the will of the wind
As the whim of this time a mystery unsolved
The tea on the cart cool with leaves of to be
And my feline friend wonders what we to do
Books wait in silence to soon be unbound
Pages of verse I’ve not gleaned for some time
The swing on the porch moves to and fro
Spinning its tales of those who have been
And the carts in the street a blur in the mist
A memory of how we all stroll on by
Missing the nook or the glade long the road
Darting swallows but a fleeting in the eye
Sight of things which not move or even recalled
The meal on the table is suddenly gone
And we chart our course to the where we not know
No sketch or outline the future to be
Only whispers to deafness no sight to the eye
And the rain drops remain on the sill by my side
