Skipping Stones

Smooth, round, and flat
inside my palm, simple joy.
Let it fly across the water
as a bird learning to fly.
Then gently, slap, slap, slap
the crystal surface as its
purpose spreads out in ripples;
imperfect, concentric circles
gently rustling the life beneath
into awareness. Like an echo
the effect pulses out and back
to its origin but the stone
has already moved on to join
its brothers and sisters who travel
currents to some unknown destination.
Stones smooth, round, and flat
skip across the water's glassy face
then drift away.
The point of origin shudders
as if a heartbeat skipped
in the absence of some lover gone astray.

That was beautiful, you have great imagery, and
this was simple and yet, yeah, it's deep. i like how
you compared it at the end, that was really really
good and i think my favorite part of this poem.
"as if a heartbeat skipped
in the absence of some lover gone astray."
