Fairy Tale - Ending

Contributed by Silent-No-More on Friday, 24th December 2004 @ 11:29:45 AM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

Lullaby singer, lost before dawn
I closed my eyes and you were gone
As nighttime visions filled my sleep
A starlit sky began to weep
… because you slipped away from me

You took naivety with you
Left me to learn of fears anew
With reality staring back at me
I can’t ignore probability
… because you broke my heart in two

Mundane ideas now fill my mind
Chasing, chasing my soul is Time
The calendar pages fall to the floor
I’ve drifted now a decade or more
… because you left me on my own

Responsibility is bearing down
My childhood’s in the lost and found
But no longer do I have the right
To claim it mine, though wish I might
… because you took it away from me

Never did you tell me what to do
With all the wishes I made to you
I still recall them, but I now doubt
I’ll ever again let them slip out
… because you’ve stolen my desire to

So no more wishing on stars today
I must find a new and different way
Letting go the fairy tale to find truth
I still miss you though, my dear Youth
… because you kept the dream alive

Goodbye,
Childlike wishing
Goodbye…

SNM, this is really beautiful. It's so tough when we see youth vanishing and yet don't necessarily feel any older on the inside. "chasing my soul is Time" is great phrasing. cheers! (and hugs) J.

Oh hunni...
This is so sad..
And the last three lines, almost broke me in two.
Just those three lines made the poem more powerful than many I've seen.
But I think that may be because I know you. And I know what you mean, and I know I relate.

This is an amazing write hunni,
*hugs you tons*

oh wow.... for coming out of nowhere, this poem is well crafted and it seems as if it would be deeply felt...My favorite stanza is "
So no more wishing on stars today
I must find a new and different way
Letting go the fairy tale to find truth
I still miss you though, my dear Youth
… because you kept the dream alive"
I can very much relate to this at the point in my life that I am.
The ending added a wistful tone and wraps up the poem well. This is a masterpiece.
