October Orchard

Topic: happypoetry

The boughs of maple and stars above me
Orion, Cassiopeia, and the Pleiades
They glimmered and sparkled that October night
When the winds were cold and the moon was white.

And I sat with a thought in my floating head
That played in the phrases of what was said
They danced and dared that October night
When the winds were cold and the moon was white.

The leaves that blew were orange and yellow
The deep colors of an autumn mellow
They frolicked and flew that October night
When the winds were cold and the moon was white.

The jacket I wore was worn from the days
When we looked at the clouds in a lazy daze
It shivered and shuddered that October night
When the winds were cold and the moon was white.

And you hooked my finger with a green-gloved hand
Thus my head came running back to land
It rushed and ran that October night
When the winds were cold and the moon was white.

In silence we watched the stars above me
Orion, Cassiopeia, and the Pleiades
They glimmered and sparkled that October night
When the winds were cold and the moon was white.
