This Empty Vessel

selfstruggles

In a blink of an eye,
youth fades before me.
No final sigh, as if to
say, good-bye. Like
a candle’s flame,
extinguished, blown out
by the pursed cold lips
of age.
The harsh reality that
life has passed me by
without a backward
glance leaves me sitting
in the shadows, looking
back at what once
was beautiful.
Where did I go? For I am
still here, yet only in limbo.
I am caught within the
folds of time, drowning by
the sands which flow like
a rapidly moving river.
Left is this shell, a vessel
now drained, emptied by
the cold grasp of age’s
hand.
Trapped in limbo am I,
destined to walk the shadows,
cast out into the harsh
snows that lay claim to
my now empty soul.
