Behind My Crooked Smile

Contributed by SoUR_GuRL67 on Wednesday, 22nd December 2004 @ 07:44:16 PM in AEST
Topic: EmotionalPoetry

I hide behind a lie, my smile, it shields me everyday
Pretending to be happy does not soothe the hurt away
I can trick the trickiest, out smart the smartest
But I can’t fool myself
So I display this crooked smile
And store my pain upon a shelf
I lock my tears tightly away
Then I swallow the key
They cannot know I’m dying inside
What would they think of me?
I mask my mental bruises
Blame my scars on clumsy me
Put band aids on my scabs
To make sure no one will see
I hide behind a lie, my smile, it shields me everyday
Pretending to be happy until I truly am one day

There are those who see through the outer layers, finding the hurt and pain buried deep inside. Some of those who do, extend a caring hand to help lift some of that pain away. The scars, cuts and bruises do not give them cause to judge someone. We all deal with demons of some kind. Knowing how to spot those who wish to help in the battle gives us the upper edge.

Emotional write.

There is a time to hide our pain, and a time to release it. The trick is, figureing which is when. Nicely written and heartfelt are the emotions.

peace
