U.S. SOLDIER KILLED IRAQI TEEN AFTER HAVING SEX

U.S. soldier killed Iraqi teen after having sex

A U.S. National Guardsman who pleaded guilty to killing a 17-year-old Iraqi said he shot the young man 11 times after they had sex in a guard tower, a North Carolina newspaper reports, citing court-martial records.

Pvt. Federico Daniel Merida, 21, pleaded guilty to murder without premeditation and other charges during a court-martial in Iraq in September. Merida was sentenced September 25 to 25 years in prison, received a reduction in rank, and will be dishonorably discharged. He is being held at the U.S. military prison in Fort Leavenworth, Kan., a Leavenworth spokeswoman said.

U.S. army officials at Forward Operating Base Danger, where the court-martial was held in Iraq, had withheld details of the case. However, The [Raleigh, N.C.,] News & Observer reported over the weekend that records said Merida and the Iraqi were on guard duty May 11 in a tower on the perimeter of an army camp near Tikrit in northern Iraq. At about 10:30 p.m. local time, Merida shot the teen 11 times with his carbine.

Merida first told investigators the teen demanded money at gunpoint. Later he said he killed the boy because he forced him to have sex. In a third interview Merida said he was angry after the two had consensual sex. Merida also pleaded guilty to two counts of giving false statements. Merida apologized to the victim's family during the court-martial, records said. 'He was a son, a brother, someone very important to them,' Merida said. 'I took someone they loved and cared for.' Merida, who was born in Veracruz, Mexico, has a wife and son. He was a member of the 113th Field Artillery Battalion's Battery B, based in Monroe, N.C.

Here we see a face of war
It is another ugly view
Thankfully these are only
The actions of a few

But make no mistake
This is only one of many faces
The ugliness of war
Holds many such disgraces

Think a little deeper
When they next tell you
It’s SO necessary
This will be a cakewalk to do

War is no computer game
It is no Neo Con wet dream
In war guts are spread
You hear the victim scream

And then you have those
Brutalised by their acts
Killing becomes so easy
And try to hide the facts

This man shot a boy
Shot him eleven times no less
He was guilty of no crime
One more victim of the Iraqi mess

Forced into sex
By a trooper strong
Then shot like a dog
Though he did no wrong

At the top of the chain that leads to Abu Ghraib
And the horror that is Iraq
Is the name of a few men
Who started this attack

They with their callous voices
Their lies and brutal ways
Spread the consent to crime
Through these ugly days

What bastards preside
Over America today
Such nasty little minds
That deceive and deprave

What a black episode
This illegal war has been
As every new revelation
Shows it ever more obscene

upsetting and so unfortunately true.

i admire you and your courage to speak out about controversial matters. obviously, no one in their right mind would condone actions such as the ones you have written about above but a lot of people are blind and in denial about war not being the answer.

I agree, this war is awful.... But what they don't show on the tv is all the good that has come for the Iraqi people. Not all soldiers are bad, you only hear about the ones that are so it makes it seem like they all are killing machines. This was a very upsetting incident, and I am glad you wrote about it. But remeber some war is neccesary.
