When it arrives upon
Your own life’s fragile stage,
And you find yourself not ready,
But know you can’t be saved,
Then what shall you do, my dearest friend,
When you’re obliged to heed its call?
For it comes to all of us, my friend,
Death cometh to us all.
Shall you, upon your egress
Slip quietly from sight?
Knowing not what is before you,
Perhaps darkness, perhaps light.
What shall you do, my dearest friend,
When you must take that final fall?
For it comes to all of us, my friend
Death cometh to us all
The wisest action, it would seem,
Is to carve yourself a niche,
Live what you want life to be
And grab all that’s in your reach.
Then when you are, my dearest friend
Obliged to head it’s call,
You may exit with some confidence
For death cometh to us all.
So shall you make fate your servant,
Or be a slave to fate?
Come now, fellow traveler
The hour doth grow late.
I bid thee well, my dearest friend,
I must now heed the call,
For death hath come to me
As it cometh to us all
…..For it comes to all of us, my friend,
Death cometh to us all….
