I went to see Franz Ferdinand tonight I wrote this about it

Making a Difference

I stand and address the crowd
It doesn’t matter what I say
Racial slurs
Quotes from the Bible
Something off a crappy TV show I watched when I was a kid
I could say anything and they’d still
Clap
Cheer
Catcall
Right now I am their leader
I am their hero
I am their God.

I start the first guitar riff
They sing along
They know every note.
I wrote this song
I am this band
I’ve made my mark on this earth.
And even if it’s all gone by tomorrow
It’s been here
I’ve had an impact
I made a difference.

***

Standing in the audience
I listen, I jump, I dance
I notice him stop for a second and look up.
What is he thinking?
Is he wondering how someone like him
Got to where he is today?
Is he pondering the value of his position
If this is him fulfilling a dream
Is he simply caught up in the moment?
And just for those five seconds
I’m madly in love with him.
His words are
The way I’ll live my life
At least for the next hour.

One day I’ll be there
I’ll look out on my crowd
I’ll have made my mark.
Not in the same way, I don’t know
Maybe someone will read my poems or stories
Maybe I’ll change lives somehow
But one day I’ll be where he is now.

And I’ll look up and think
I am this person
I have done this
And even if it’s all gone by tomorrow
It’s OK
Because I’ve been here
I made a difference.

I'm shocked! I was not stoned, nor was I thinking of that at the time... I thought of that afterwards. So there. They were really good though. Everyone should go see Franz!
