There he sat,
With dirt under his nails,
And no wind left in his sails.
Hand out stretched,
Scanning the crowd,
Crying for help but they're too loud.
To notice if he's even still alive.
Couldn't they even look his way,
and maybe smile?
There he slept,
And silently he wept,
Invisible once more.
They walked by,
Looked quickly to the right,
To them, he was an eye sore.
"Too bad," they said,
"He's got himself to blame."
Couldn't they even stop to ask
His unknown name?
There he waited,
Losing his mind,
One apathetic comment at a time.
Hat lay empty,
But ears were filled with scorn.
Just another nothing, dirty and worn.
"Move on," they said,
"Pretend that he's not there."
How could they even know,
or would they even care?
There he died,
And not one person cried.
One less nothing on the street.

Ever consider that Christ was born to a homeless, unwed woman? I've thought of that often these last few weeks. Isn't it just like God to reach out to us in that way?
Yes, this moved me and made me think.

Life, in one of its guises. I don't drop money into hats. I give to homeless charities instead. Beggars, in my experience at least, are desperate individuals with psychosocial issues, often involving alcohol or drugs. Society should have the proper catchment processes in place to rehabilitate them, and in my corner of the world, this is improving, yet not ideal.
Nice write about reality.
Keep at it. |
