Convince Yourself

Contributed by blueyes11 on Thursday, 16th December 2004 @ 09:39:26 PM in AEST
Topic: ChristianPoetry

Convince yourself that nothing's real,
Deny the world around you.
Tell yourself it's all by chance,
Insist He hasn't found you.

Go ahead, convince yourself,
That truth, it matters not.
Take all the strength you've got,
And pretend you've never sought.

To find something so much greater,
Precious and so fair,
Go ahead, covince yourself
That really, you don't care.

And if you want to, turn away
From all He offers freely,
And tell yourself
- Yes, one more time,
That you don't want it, really.
*
Silence voices in your head
That drown out One that matters
Your intricately woven thoughts,
Let go and watch them shatter

Step out from your solid roof,
That shelters out the Son light.
Let Him lift your heavy burden,
Replacing it with one light.
*
You think that you don't need His love,
It's fake and not for you.
Stop trying to convince yourself,
You know,
Deep down,
You do.

I think you're saying something strikingly honest. These days it's more subconscious, society convinces us slowly, deceptively through every kind of media possible. You turn on the Tv and there's a million denials of any one right and wrong and then you read the paper and there's something that contradicts the television version of life. But somehow christianity is one version that every aspect of media shy's away from. To me it's what everyone else runs away from that draws me in. You're poem gives an honest voice to the oblivion of today's society. I loved the rythm and flow.
