Careless Parents
December 13, 2004
Careless parents let me go
Careless parents do not know
They have lost a precious gift
Lost all the love that I could give
Careless parents turned away
Promised to come back one day
Tried, or lied, I do not know
Said they'd change, so long ago
A worn-thin promise to a judge, to me
Now I hear no words, for now I see
Careless parents backed away from me
They found out my power then
A little girl, not yet ten
I could take away their secret
Or careless parents could emit
So careless parents let me go
Careless parents do not know
And now I walk away and take with me
That same power, and my individuality

It's a gut-wrenching subject, when parents abandon (legally or otherwise) their kids. A tough poem, but a good one. More power to ya.
